Saturday saw a 4BBB played, and it saw Frank Sanders and Graham Pateman fire 43 points to take a two shot victory over Gary Price and Alan Lawrence, who beat Clive Elliott and Mark Cummins, along with Sharon Leach and Ian Steer on countback on 41.

Thursday saw the Devon Alliance visit Crediton, and despite the torrential rain during the week, the course was in excellent condition, as shown by the winning pro score of 40 points (4 under par) by Elfordleigh’s Nick Cook, who beat home professional Barry Austin by two. Barry, along with Frank Sanders, was also runner up in the team event, meaning that Barry was the winner of the year-long pros Kenyon Trophy, while Frank ended runner up in the amateur Order of Merit.

Week ending 21st April

Saturday saw the first medal of the year, which was won by 12 year old Tom Trowbridge with an excellent 65 in Division 1, one clear of Quin Payne-Cook, who will now represent the club in the PGA National Pro Am with professional Barry Austin. Peter Russell (68) was third, beating Ollie Greenslade, who won the scratch prize with 73, on countback. In Division 2, Simon Coupe’s 67 gave him a two shot victory over 5 players on 69, while in Division 3, Keith Bevan (67) was victorious over Ron Drew (69) and Mark Cummins (70)

The Seniors Niblick saw a runaway winner as Danny Enright fired a superb 45 points to win Division 2 by seven shots from Dan Druce, Andrew Chandler and Jim Enright, while in Division 1, John Corbett’s 40 points held off David Lee (39), Ron Berry (38) and Alan Willey (38).

The Midweek Stableford was badly affected by gales and driving rain, but Matt Arnold coped best as he beat Alan Hatherley into second.

The Ladies Stableford also saw a comfortable victory in difficult conditions, this time for Lyn Parry who scored a superb 38 points to win Bronze 1, beating Doreen Warren and Sue Bonner, while in Bronze 2, Norma Barry was the winner ahead of Jill Aldworth. Sharon Leach beat Fran Shrubsole to top spot in Silver.

Week ending 14th April

The final day of March saw a Pro Stableford played and it was Tristan Kershaw who fired a superb 44 points to win ahead of Brian Vicary, Maurice Curtis and Stuart Trowbridge (all 40).

The following day saw a team medal with one score to count. The winners on countback with 59 were Colin Baker, Roger Cole and David Taylor, edging out Steve Hooper, Gerry Hodder and Barry Tucker into second, and Chet Greenslade, Matt and Graham Dyne into third.

The Seniors April Medal was won by Barry Lias in Division 2 with 65, one ahead of Jim Enright with Roger Wellaway on 68. In Division 1, Brian Kelly fired 67 to beat Mike Charnock (68) and Adrian Hewitt (69).

The first Midweek Stableford saw Ben Marchant and Alan Draper share the honours with 39 points, ahead of Lee Mottram (36)

The Ladies Medal saw Norma Barry win Bronze 2 with the best score of the day, ahead of Jill Aldworth, while Betty Willey, Joyce Gilg and Sue Bonner were the top 3 in Bronze 1. Jo Coe beat Sophie Button for the win in Silver.

Saturday saw the Captain’s Charity Stableford played, with Brian Kelly in Division 2 firing the best score of the day with 42 points, to beat Paul Leach (41), Tristan Kershaw (40) and Lewis Ponsford (40). Alan Lawrence continued his good form to win Division 1 with 41, one ahead of Roger Coates, Matt Dyne and Alan Hatherley, while in Division 3, Garry Pell beat David Telling and Mark Cummins on countback with 38.

The Midweek Stableford saw Ben Marchant (39) record back-to-back wins to move clear at the top of the Order of Merit, while Ollie Greenslade’s 38 points saw him finish runner-up.

Week ending 24th March

Saturday saw a Yellowball team event played. Winners of the Yellowball section were Mike Napper, Nigel Chard and Mark Ainscough, who beat Rodin Mackay, Gavin Darke and Jamie Izzard by a shot, with Jamie McGuigan, James Bourner and Neil Pellow edged out into third on countback. In the team medal, Ben Marchant, Maurice Curtis and Darren Clifford (131) were victorious, again by one shot over Karl Lea, Jerry Thornton and Mike Charnock, with Pete Lawrence, Dave Telling and Pete Yendell taking third on countback on 133.

Sunday saw Tim Lee and Tony Cockayne representing the club in the first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes, and they recorded a comfortable 4/3 win over the Warren to progress through.

The Seniors played the Mike Dunk and John Baird Trophies on Monday, and the John Baird Trophy (Div 1) was decided on countback as Dennis Wright edged out Paul Fricker, both with 40 points, one ahead of Ed Copp. The Mike Dunk Trophy saw a more comfortable victory for Ken Legassick as his 39 points was three better than Paul Willcocks and Jim Enright.

The Ladies Stableford on Thursday saw Lyn Parry continue her good form as she won Bronze 1 by three shots from Betty Willey, with June Mitchell in third. Bronze 2 went to Sue Sparham ahead of Viv Bailey and Norma Barry, while Judith Ezard edged out Ladies Captain, Fran Shrubsole on countback to win the Silver Division.
